One person killed in Johnston County crash

From staff reportsJune 5, 2014

— A 19-year-old Wendell woman died Thursday morning when the passenger car she was riding in ran off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

Vicky Villalobos of Lake Wendell Road in Wendell was pronounced dead at the scene, said First Sgt. Jeff Gordon, a spokesman for the State Highway Patrol.

Two more young people who lived with Villalobos were also injured, Gordon said.

The driver of the car, Jasmine Villalobos, was transported by emergency workers to WakeMed in Raleigh for injuries described as serious, Gordon said. A third person, Miguel Parra-Tapia, was also injured and taken to WakeMed, he said.

The accident took place before 10 a.m. on Buffaloe Road, near Turnipseed Road in Archer Lodge, state troopers reported.

The Toyota was traveling north on Buffaloe Road, wheen it ran off the road. Investigators say Jasmine Villalobos overcorrected, and the car swerved back onto the highway, crossed the centerline and crashed into a ditch before continuing to roll into a utility pole, Gordon said.

State troopers are continuing their investigation and will consult with the Johnston County District Attorney's Office to determine if charges should be filed, Gordon said.
