J.C. Atkeson: Bergdahl deserves fair treatment

June 5, 2014

I am more than a little annoyed by the reaction of the political right on the subject of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. It is busy trying and convicting Bergdahl while ignoring the rule of law.

He may or may not deserve the opprobrium, but until a General Court Martial decides otherwise, he remains a sergeant in good standing in the U.S. Army. The standard in the United States in both military and civil courts is innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

The political right is very busy acting like a vigilante mob.
