The N&O All-Metro softball team and final rankings

Underclassmen dominate The News & Observer 2014 All-Metro high school softball team. The 12-player team includes only two seniors and three juniors, but has six sophomores and one freshman.

The youth movement was led by Orange freshman Mia Davidson, who batted .522 and ripped 12 home runs.

Sophomore Holly Clark pitched Jordan-Matthews to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A championship series while fellow sophomore MyKaela Watt of East Chapel Hill posted a .724 batting average, which would be the No. 3 all-time mark in the state if verified.

Seven of the all-stars hit .500 or better.

The top four teams in The N&O high school softball rankings reached the N.C. High School Athletic Association state semifinals.

Middle Creek, the leader for most of the season, finishes on top followed by 2A Jordan-Matthews, 3A South Johnston and 1A Princeton.
