Veronica Scheinuk: Ugly contest

June 8, 2014

When I saw the May 30 news article “ Greenville’s Peanut is an ‘ugly’ dog on a mission,” I assumed I would read something heartwarming or heroic about the dog with the frightening face. Instead, his owners were entering Peanut in a contest in which the terrible injuries he once suffered would be used to help him win the title of “Ugliest Dog.”

I think the wrong one is being entered in the contest. It should be Peanut’s loving family and perhaps The N&O, which splashed the story and picture, twisting a display of deformity into a “mission.” And Peanut should have a front-row seat to enjoy the show.
