Duke QB Nico Pierre has surgery on broken thumb

Posted by Laura Keeley on June 9, 2014

Incoming Duke QB Nico Pierre, one of the highest-rated recruits of the David Cutcliffe era, will have to wait a bit before he takes the field.

A routine physical revealed a fracture in Pierre’s left (non-throwing hand) thumb, and he underwent surgery Friday. It’s just a minor setback for the Blue Devils, as Pierre will redshirt this season, as long as all goes well with the health of the other quarterbacks. The hope is that he will be fully healed for fall camp.

Pierre, who stands 6-foot-2, 203 pounds, is a dual-threat, four-star quarterback, according to ESPN. Other major recruiting services have him as a three-star prospect. If you want to read more about Pierre, here’s an interview with him from last summer.
