Raleigh police charge two men with shooting death outside sports bar

From staff reportsJune 11, 2014

— Police arrested two men they think are responsible for the shooting death of a 40-year-old man outside a North Raleigh sports bar early Wednesday morning.

Ydhiam Buonkrong, 25, and Teleah Janae Richmond, 21, were arrested Wednesday afternoon and each charged with murder, said police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

Buonkrong was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Sughrue said.

Buonkrong and Richmond are accused of shooting Luis Alexander Rodriguez, who lived in the 3900 block of Westra Drive in Raleigh. Police have not said what led to the shooting or if Rodriguez and suspects were acquainted.

Investigators say Rodriguez was shot multiple times just before 2 a.m. outside the Mambo Sports Bar at 2221 New Hope Church, just east of Atlantic Avenue.

A man who called 911 said Rodriguez had been shot in the chest and stomach.

“He’s bleeding really bad. He’s not alert at all,” the caller told the dispatcher on a 911 recording made public Wednesday afternoon. “He’s laying here moaning.”

The caller, whose name was not made public, told the dispatcher that the shooter fled behind the sports bar and left the scene.

Rodriguez was taken to WakeMed, where he later died, Sughrue said.
