Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Near shore Spanish mackerel and taylor blues are biting, while nice sized puppy drum can be found inshore. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Inshore Spanish mackerel and blue fish are being hooked near the beach. Offshore blue marlin, dolphin, yellowfin, blackfin and white marlin can be reeled in.

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Blue fish, pompano and flounder can be found off the beach and are being caught with shrimp and mullets. Mahi-mahi are biting offshore, while cobia can be found inshore.

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Topsail Island

Spanish mackerel, blues, mullets, red drum and black drum are biting near the piers, while grouper and mahi-mahi can be found offshore. Fresh shrimp bait has successful. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Inshore flounder, red fish and trout are being caught with Carolina rigs. Near shore cobia, sea mullet, blue fish and shark have been biting. Offshore king mackerel and mahi-mahi fishing has been strong. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Black bass, king mackerel and dolphin are biting offshore, while trout, puppy drum and flounder are being hooked inshore. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; www.yeahrightcharters.com; or www.oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass are biting at 10-15 feet and crappie are being hooked at 6-12 feet, while catfish can be found at a variety of depths. Carolina rigs and crank bait have been successful. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 251.76, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Jordan Lake

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet. Rattle traps, soft plastics and spinner baits have been successful. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 215.59, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Bass, catfish and crappie are biting at depths of 2-10 feet and are being caught with cut bait and soft plastics. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 300.87, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Lake Wheeler

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet. Rattle traps, soft plastics and spinner baits have been successful. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Shearon Harris Lake

Bass have moved out off the points and are being hooked with spinner bait and Carolina rigs, while crappie are biting around 15-20 feet and are being hooked with soft plastics. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
