The publishers Little, Brown announced Friday that the company has signed a two-book deal with Kinston chef Vivian Howard, star of the PBS show “A Chef’s Life.”

Howard’s first book, “Deep Run Roots: Ingredients from My Corner of North Carolina,” will come out in 2015.

Howard, 36, owns Chef and the Farmer, a fine-dining restaurant in Kinston. Her show, part cooking show and part documentary, recently won a Peabody award.

“Storytelling and cooking are two things I absolutely love to do, so the opportunity to tell the story of my region’s food through the lens of family and memory is big,” Howard said. “Honestly, I hope I get to write lots about food, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure Deep Run Roots is memorable, useful, and relevant.”

Howard is not the only local chef with a recent book deal: Raleigh chef Ashley Christensen, who won a James Beard award for best chef in the Southeast, has a two-book deal with Ten Speed Press. Christensen owns Poole’s Diner and several other Raleigh restaurants. Her first book will be published in 2016, and the second book in 2018.

In an email, Christensen explained: “The first is a Poole’s-inspired book, but more with regard to approach and a way of thinking logically in the kitchen. There are definitely elements of cooking for a groups of friends, and sharing great food and how that relates to community in every zip code.”
