Durham police arrest suspect in bank robbery

— Police report that a man robbed the SunTrust Bank branch at 1516 N. Gregson St. on Friday afternoon. Major Edwards Jr., 50, of Durham was arrested and charged with robbery several hours after the incident.

Edwards entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money and threatening the use of a weapon, according to police. No witnesses saw a weapon, police report.

The suspect left the bank with cash, according to police; the Durham Police Department has not said how much money he’s suspected to have taken.

Public records didn’t immediately detail Edwards’ bond.
