David Streifford: Too close for comfort

June 14, 2014

Regarding the June 5 news article “ N.C. now open to fracking”: The fracking legislation signed by Gov. Pat McCrory is bad for N.C., bad for regional economic development in Chatham and adjacent counties and little more than a Trojan horse for offshore drilling.

It takes a mind-numbing myopia to legalize and subsidize fracking in the face of the proposed Chatham Park, a 7,000-plus-acre, mixed-use development that would become home to hundreds of businesses and thousands of workers and homeowners. But such is the cockeyed logic of this legislature and governor.
