Athens Drive High student achieves Eagle rank

Colin Meagher

Colin Meagher of Cary has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting.

For his Eagle project, Colin, 16, a rising junior at Athens Drive High in Raleigh, led a process to correct a flood-prone walkway at Northwoods Elementary in Cary.

The project involved Colin and several volunteers pouring new concrete from the bottom step of a school stairway to a sidewalk leading towards a greenway in order to prevent the pooling of rain water.

The new concrete enabled the water to flow down and off the sidewalk. Students previously had to climb up the side of a hill in the mud to get to school. Colin and volunteers planted more than 50 plants on the hill to stop the erosion caused from students climbing the hill.

Colin is a member of Troop 316, and the son of Michael and Mary Ann Meagher. Colin’s additional Boy Scout achievements include earning 23 merit badges.
