— A 28-year-old Raleigh resident faces a cocaine-trafficking charge after police found what they said was 30 grams of the drug when they stopped him early Wednesday.

Larry Ladonte Batts of 1805 Oakwood Ave. was arrested at New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road about 2:45 a.m., records show.

He also was charged with heroin possession, possession of drug scales and plastic bags like those used to distribute drugs, carrying a concealed .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol, possession of a stolen gun and possession of a gun by a felon.

The last charge stems from a 2012 guilty plea to a 2011 cocaine-possession charge, police said in an arrest warrant.

Batts served prison time for that conviction at the end of an earlier sentence for drug possession in 2010, state records show.

He was released from prison in October.

He also received several suspended sentences after drug arrests in Wake County in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, state correction files show.

A magistrate set Batts’ bail at $150,000 and noted he has charges pending in Wake and Franklin counties for obtaining property by false pretenses, according to state court calendars.

It was unclear when those charges were brought.

Batts was being held in the Wake County Detention Center for a Wednesday court appearance. He has dates in Wake and Franklin county courts next month on the false-pretenses charges.

For several years, Batts’ middle name was spelled Ladante in criminal records, but the most recent cases list it as Ladonte.
