DURHAM — Police on Wednesday released a composite drawing of a man who may have sexually assaulted a woman late last month in the alley of a popular residential and commercial district near Duke University.
The attack took place just after midnight on Sunday, May 25, in an alley between Ninth and Iredell streets, said Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
Investigators say the woman was walking in the alley around 12:30 a.m. when a man armed with a knife pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Michael said.
The neighborhood is just north of Duke Universitys East Campus and a popular destination for its students.
Police are searching for a young man with a medium brown complexion, an athletic build and close-cut hair. The suspect appears to be in his late teens to mid-20s. He stands about 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall.
