Durham police find sexual assault report 'unfounded'

From staff reportsJune 19, 2014

— Further investigation has found a report of a sexual assault this week to be unfounded, according to the Durham Police Department.

A woman had told police that a man dragged her behind a business in the 4700 block of Hope Valley Road on Tuesday. She reported that she was sexually assaulted, according to police.

The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police sent out a news release describing a suspect and asking for help.

But further police investigation first determined that the assault hadn’t happened on Hope Valley Road. Then, police said Thursday that the report was “unfounded.”
