Shannon Eckard: College question

June 19, 2014

The June 12 news article “ Student loan refinance bill stalls in Senate” rightly acknowledges higher education as a critical issue facing both our state and country. Yet I’m disappointed that another important higher education topic, the proposed regulations by the Obama administration known as “gainful employment,” has yet to be discussed or debated by either Thom Tillis or Kay Hagan.

Here in North Carolina, as a University of Phoenix leader, I can say that the potential regulations may prohibit thousands of North Carolina students from pursuing their desired higher education program. Both candidates should communicate where they stand on this critically important issue with voters.
