Janis Ramquist: Corporate welfare

June 19, 2014

Regarding the June 10 Point of View piece “ Fracking in N.C.? Forget about it”: What happened to the Republicans’ dedication to the “free market”? Why do Republicans want taxpayers to pay for the expense of natural gas exploration on behalf of the fracking industry? The fracking industry will get the profits and taxpayers get the bills.

Why should taxpayers pay for Duke Energy’s corporate decision to allow the pollution of North Carolina’s water? The company gets the profits while the taxpayers get the bill. North Carolina needs to stop corporate welfare and hold corporations responsible.
