When Daddy died, the important thing I wanted to inherit was his small plastic bank, a gift and replica of Rochester Savings Bank, located on a pie-shaped corner in downtown Rochester, N.Y., and now on the National Register of Historic Places. I’d coveted the little bank since I was 5 years old!

Back then he saved his spare 50 cent pieces in that bank. When it was full, he’d empty it to refill again. I vividly remember the magical night we spread overflowing piles of shiny coins on our kitchen table and he announced we had enough money to buy our first television. I thought we were RICH!

This simple bank always reminds me of priceless memories shared with a loving father.
