Candice Kish, who turns 41 this month, wants to look good and feel confident in her clothes but needs help getting there.
Over the years, I seem to have lost all sense of style and just cant figure out what I want my look to be, said the part-time accounting manager, who lives in Raleigh. Whenever I try to shop now I just cant figure out what shapes/colors will flatter me and hide my flaws.
I shopped with the wife and mother of three at Smitten Boutique in Durham, picking out two outfits that complement her shape and express her personality.
Before the makeover, Kishs typical summer uniform was a tee, shorts and thong sandal. Sure, it was functional, but it without accessories, great tailoring, color or embellishments, it blended into the background. Horizontal stripes made her torso look wider than it is.
Hairstylist Lauren Vincent trimmed Kishs hair, adding soft layers that skim her shoulders, add volume and frame her face. Golden highlights lend dimension to her cut and the sun-kissed color looks right for summer. Skillful makeup draws attention to Kishs eyes and sunny smile.
For a dressy look, we chose a little blue dress by JJ. Navy blue harmonizes with other colors, unlike black, which looks stifling in summer and tends to dominate colors. Shape-enhancing seams on the dress bodice accentuate Kishs curvy waist and skim over her hips, flattering her figure.
Lenny and Era beaded bracelets play off the navy dress. Metallic accessories add a sophisticated punch. The Hobo bronze clutch has a cutout handle, and the braided-leather banded sandal by All Black show off a pretty pedicure.
For a casual outfit, we chose a chambray shirt and patterned pants, two trends from the spring runway shows that give Kish a modern look. The Elliott Lauren button-front chambray blouse and slim pants are polished, and they create a sleek silhouette. The Step silk scarf adds style, pattern and color. Braided-leather banded sandals by All Black pair well with skinny pants.
For Kish, the makeover could not have come at a better time. With her husband undergoing treatment for cancer, she said, I needed a pick-me-up.
Kudos to Vincent, who gave Kish much-appreciated pampering during a free hairstyling and makeup session. She also helped her transition from a too-long ponytail to a lob, the popular long bob cut.
