Carnage Middle School wins state MathCounts contest

Carnage Middle School in Raleigh ranked first out of 45 schools in the state MathCounts competition.

The Carnage team consisted of Andrew Li, Nina Prabhu, Emily Wen and Jerry Zhao and was coached by John Armpriester. Emily placed third in the individual competition among 163 students.

Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill ranked second place in the state.

About 220 middle schools and over 2,000 students participated in the statewide math program this year.

MathCounts is a national enrichment, club and competition program that seeks to motivate and reward middle school students for math achievement. Students participate in a written competition in subjects including algebra, probability and geometry.
