William Delamar: DENR needs to press Duke for cleanup

June 22, 2014

Jim Warren’s June 9 Point of View “ Kicking the ash can down the road” was on point. Duke Energy presented a cost of production to the N.C. Utilities Commission, and now it is time for it to finish the job and pay to clean up its mess. It is just too bad for Duke’s bottom line if it did not factor in the cost of cleanup. That is on Duke!

Why would the DENR appeal Judge Paul Ridgeway’s ruling that Duke must clean up the ash dumps without delay? Isn’t DENR supposed to be looking out for the environment and people of NC?

DENR needs to be pressing for a cleanup that is best practice and not allowing Duke to cut corners and cost.
