Motorcyclist killed in collision on Raleigh's Glenwood Avenue

— A motorcyclist was killed after he collided with an SUV on Glenwood Avenue on Monday afternoon, according to police.

Robert Jim Emerson Bates of Lynwood Lane in Raleigh was attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Glenwood from Edenburgh Road when he pulled into an oncoming SUV in the southbound lane.

Bates, 57, was taken to WakeMed, where he died.

The driver of the SUV, Andrea Phyllis Meli, 59, was not injured. Police determined that Meli was traveling under the speed limit and had the right of way, and she was not cited.

The accident took place shortly after 1 p.m. Police closed southbound Glenwood near Glen Eden Drive for a time as they conducted their investigation.
