Wimbledon, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Five-time champion Serena Williams was an easy second-round winner Thursday at Wimbledon.

The world No. 1 superstar stomped helpless South African Chanelle Scheepers 6-1, 6-1 in a mere 49 minutes on the No. 1 Court at the venerable All England Club.

The 17-time Grand Slam singles champion and reigning U.S. Open titlist Williams is now 72-9 at Wimbledon, including seven trips into the grass-court final.

The 32-year-old's third-round opponent on Saturday will be 25th-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, who got past Czech Petra Cetkovska 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

Meanwhile, 11th-seeded former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic improved to 7-0 on grass this year with a 6-4, 6-0 pasting of Chinese Zheng Jie. The former French Open champion from Serbia captured her first-ever title on grass in Birmingham two weeks ago.
