Laura Baker Campbell: Outdated opinion

June 25, 2014

Regarding the June 25 news article “ Stam’s comments called ‘shameful’ ”: As a long-term District 37 constituent, I must say I am appalled by Paul “Skip” Stam’s remarks during the House’s discussion of Senate Bill 793. To use outdated APA definitions is misleading and mean-spirited at best. If my representative has an argument to make – even if I disagree strongly with that argument – I would expect that he use the most recent information available to build a case.

He has embarrassed District 37 with both his opinion and his deceitful tactic. I would remind all our representatives that, although everyone in the district did not vote for them, they still have a responsibility to represent all of us. They should strive to be the thoughtful and even-handed legislators that we expect and need them to be.
