Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Near shore, Spanish mackerel, trigger fish and blues are biting, and puppy drum can be found inshore. Blue marlin, white marlin and yellowfin fishing has been strong. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Inshore, lots of red drum and Spanish mackerel are biting, along with some cobia. Offshore, yellowfin, blackfin, dolphin, tuna and wahoo are being caught. Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Dolphin and marlin fishing has been really good offshore. Ballyhoos and artificial lures have been effective. Inshore, Spanish mackerel and blues are biting, and puppy drum and flounder are being caught in the sound. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678; www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

Spanish mackerel, blue fish, sea mullet, flounder, red drum and black drum can be located near the piers and in the surf. On the sound side, flounder, red drum and pin fish are biting. Offshore, mahi-mahi, grouper, snappers and some cobia are being caught, and sailfish, marlin and dolphin are being hooked in the stream. Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Inshore, flounder, red drum, black drum and sheepshead are being caught with Carolina rigs. Near shore, cobia, Spanish mackerel and king mackerel have been biting. Mahi-mahi and wahoo can be located in the stream. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Flounder fishing has been strong, and Spanish mackerel fishing has been steady, with gold clarkspoons being a popular choice for bait. Black bass, king mackerel and dolphin are biting offshore, and trout, puppy drum and flounder are being hooked inshore. Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass are biting at 15 feet and are being hooked with Carolina rigs. Crappie can be found at 8-12 feet and have been biting live minnows, and catfish are being caught near the bottom. Eels have been a popular bait choice. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 251.56, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Jordan Lake

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet. Rattle traps, soft plastics and spinner baits have been successful. Catfish are biting near the bottom. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 215.56, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Bass, catfish and crappie are biting at 10-15 feet and are being caught with cut bait and soft plastics. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 301.02, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Lake Wheeler

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet. Rattle traps, soft plastics and spinner baits have been successful. Catfish are biting near the bottom. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Shearon Harris Lake

Largmouth bass are biting anywhere from the bank to 20 feet and are being caught with crank bait. Crappie can be hooked around 10-20 feet and are biting minnows. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
