Search continues for missing diver off NC coast

From Staff ReportsJune 28, 2014

The Coast Guard was still looking on Saturday for a 65-year-old diver who went missing off the North Carolina coastline Friday afternoon.

Crew on the dive boat Glen Ellen said the man, whose name and address have not been released, was separated from his dive partner about 1:15 p.m. on Friday, nearly 35 miles south of Beaufort Inlet.

Coast Guard Petty Officer David Weydert said Saturday that the search has not been called off, adding that the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island is still on patrol.

A crew of divers and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City have assisted in the search.

Weydert said it is unknown how many people were on the dive boat or where the boat is from.
