Gov. Pat McCrory is set to sign the N.C. House Bill 1220, legalizing CBD or hemp oil. The bill unanimously passed in the N.C. Senate and had only one negative vote in the N.C. House. CBD oil is used to treat epilepsy in patients when other treatments have failed.
I applaud the compassion and fast-track of this decision by our lawmakers and governor to bring relief to the N.C. families and patients who suffer this disorder or medical malady, but I have to ask: Where is the compassion for thousands of hungry schoolchildren who could benefit from SNAP programs? Where is the compassion for 500,000 North Carolinians in need of medical care and who cannot get a decision for Medicaid under the ACA provision? Where is the compassion for the unemployed?
I am grateful for the administration’s act of kindness for these suffering families. I can only hope and earnestly wait for them to be kind to the rest of the population of N.C.
One more thing. The NC legislation should take the legalization of hemp oil one step further and legalize all hemp.
