Suspect nabbed in Durham armed robbery attempt

— Police arrested a man on robbery charges Friday morning following an armed robbery attempt at Tobacco Plus, 2017 Chapel Hill Road.

When officers answered a robbery call at the business at 7:23 a.m. Friday, an employee told them a man armed with a long gun came in the store and demanded money but fled when the employee pulled out a gun.

The employee fired shots and a bullet struck the back window of the suspect’s vehicle, according to investigators. No one was injured.

A short time later, a police dog tracked to the 1500 block of Chapel Hill Road where officers located a vehicle matching the description of the one used by the robbery suspect.

Officers arrested Robert Miller, 53, of 1502 Chapel Hill Road, and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault by pointing a gun.
