From Staff ReportsJuly 6, 2014

Four area students were recognized as district winners in a competition that features poetry and performance.

Ardyn Flynt of the Durham School of the Arts, Dajshia Marshall of the Johnston County Early College Academy in Smithfield, Emma Catanzaro of Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough and Evan Hale of Ravenscroft High School in Raleigh were all district winners in the annual Poetry Out Load competition.

Poetry Out Loud features recitations by students from public and private schools across the state.

Students first participate at the school level, then compete at the district level. Winners from district competitions advance to the state level competition.

The 2013 Poetry Out Loud state winner was Casey Goggin of Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines.
