1-cent school supply deals return

Posted by Amy Dunn on July 6, 2014

We may still be in the midst of celebrating the Fourth of July weekend, but the retailers have moved on to back-to-school sales.

Take advantage of the early bird marketing to stock up on school and office supplies at garage sale prices.

But be warned: Many sales have fine print attached to them so do your homework before purchasing.

Oftentimes, back-to-school sales require a minimum purchase of $5 in order to score those enticing penny deals.

That's not hard to rack up if you're doing all your shopping in one store. But if your kids don't start school until late August, you might be better off picking up items here and there throughout the summer because the deals will get better as we get closer to the traditional start of the school year.

And don’t forget to shop the sales and pick up extras to donate to a teacher you know or a public school near work or home.

With school finances tight and teacher raises still in question, a donation of school supplies would be a welcome sight at the front desk of any public school.

Here's a cheat sheet of the best deals this week -- with the fine print noted so there are no surprises for you at the cash register.

Office Depot and OfficeMax, which now have a combined circular:

Office Depot 12-count eraser caps or 25-count OfficeMax eraser caps: 1 cent with $5 minimum purchase. Limit 3.

Oxford and Schoolio 100-count 3x5 index cards: 1 cent with $5 minimum purchase. Limit 3.

Office Depot and OfficeMax 2-pocket folders: 1 cent with $5 minimum purchase. Limit 10.

Mini stapler: $1.

Sharpie 5-pack markers: $1.

Backpacks: 25 percent off.

Walgreens:

Wexford 2-pocket folders, 2-pack erasers, 15-pack eraser caps: 6/$1 with in-ad coupon.

Wexford school glue (4 oz.): 39 cents with in-ad coupon.

Wexford 100-count index cards: 39 cents with in-ad coupon.

Rite Aid:

Select school supplies, including crayons, glue, composition books, erasers, portfolios, paster board, pencil cases, sharpeners, index cards, thumb tacks and rulers: 2/$1 or 69 cents each.

And finally, the first of the school supply coupons appeared this weekend too. There’s a $1/2 Five Star coupon in Sunday’s P&G insert.
