UNC police investigate dormitory burglary

July 7, 2014

— UNC police are seeking to identify a “person of interest” with regard to a burglary at the Granville Towers East dormitory early Friday morning.

A female dorm resident reported that someone entered her room between when she went to bed around 2 a.m. Friday and when she awoke at 7 a.m.

When she awoke she found that the door to her room was open and her pocket book and wallet were on the floor of the hallway outside — with money missing.

A surveillance camera photographed a black male, possibly in his late 20s or early 30s, with a medium build and some facial hair, entering the dorm shortly before 7 a.m.

He was wearing a baseball cap, a long-sleeved red shirt, blue sweatpants and dark athletic shoes and drove a black Chevy HHR, a compact sports utility vehicle. Police did not release any other disguishing characterics, such as tattoos.
