Twenty-year-old man killed after car flips on I-40 in Johnston County

From staff reportsJuly 7, 2014

— A 20-year-old man was killed and another man was hospitalized in a single-car crash on Interstate 40 on Monday morning.

Juan Eduardo Del Angel of Dudley was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer east on the highway at about 8:20 a.m. when it ran off the highway to the right near its interchange with N.C. 96 in Johnston County, according to Sergeant C.W. Lawrance of the State Highway Patrol.

Del Angel apparently over-corrected, sending the SUV back across the eastbound lanes and through the median, landing upside down in the westbound lanes, Lawrence said.

Del Angel was killed by the wreck, according to Lawrance. His front-seat passenger, Richie Morrisroe, 20, of Goldsboro, was transported to WakeMed’s Raleigh campus with injuries, Lawrance said.

Morrisroe was in fair condition Monday evening, according to the hospital.

Neither speed nor alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
