CARY — Southwest Cary Parkway will be closed for about a month at Old Apex Road while workers make improvements to the CSX railroad crossing there.
The $490,000 project is scheduled to begin July 14 and last for 28 days, the town announced Monday. Workers will repave the crossing, build new sidewalks and install new traffic and pedestrian signals.
Town officials had hoped to complete the work without closing Cary Parkway, but decided that wasn’t possible after consulting with the N.C. Department of Transportation and with CSX.
“Instituting a full closure was necessary in order to be time sensitive and cost effective,” said town Transportation Engineer Bob Shultes.
Detour signs will direct drivers around the work site using Lake Pine Drive and U.S. 64.
All businesses and homes near the work site will remain accessible during the project, according to the town.
