Wake County Commissioners approve purchase of two elementary school sites

The Wake County Board of Commissioners approved Monday the purchase of land for two new elementary schools scheduled to open in 2016.

Wake will pay up to $1.27 million for 23.55 acres on the northern side of Holly Springs New Hill Road east of its intersection with Green Oaks Parkway in Holly Springs. Wake will also pay $645,000 for 21.5 acres near the intersection of Tarheel Club and Tarheel Clubhouse roads in East Raleigh.

School administrators cited growth in East Raleigh and Holly Springs as the reason both sites are needed.

The purchases were previously approved by the school board with final approval resting with the commissioners.
