— Vance County sheriff's deputies say a man has been shot to death after he shot and wounded his son.

Sheriff's deputies say 84-year-old Lloyd Woodlief was killed after he shot and wounded his son Monday in the Kittrell community.

Deputies said Woodlief was shot by a young relative whose name was not released because of his age.

Forty-nine-year-old Lloyd Peyton Woodlief was wounded. He's being treated at Duke University Hospital.

Sheriff Peter White said the youngster is being held by juvenile services workers. Those younger than 13 cannot be tried as adults in North Carolina.

Deputies were called to a home around 7 p.m. Monday and found Lloyd Woodlief who died shortly after they arrived.

The family would not talk about the shootings Tuesday.
