Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Spanish mackerel, amberjack and blues are biting near shore. Offshore, dolphin fishing has been steady, while yellowfin, wahoo and shark are being hooked. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Red drum are showing up along the beach and are being caught with cut bait . Pompano, flounder, Spanish mackerel and blue fish are being caught off the beach. Inshore, cobia are biting, while offshore gaffer and dolphin are being hooked. Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Inshore, trout, flounder, Spanish mackerel, blue fish and king mackerel can be caught. Gigging has been successful for the flounder. Offshore, dolphin and billfish have been biting. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678; www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

Along the piers and in the surf Spanish mackerel, blues, mullets and flounder can be caught. Offshore, grouper, mahi-mahi and sea bass are biting. Sailfish and marlin are being hooked in the stream. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Near shore, Spanish mackerel, blue fish, flounder, red fish, black sea bass and amberjacks are biting. Live bait has worked well. Offshore, mahi-mahi, billfish and tuna are being caught with troll ballyhoos. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Spanish mackerel and blue fish fishing has been strong. Sharks have been biting, with black tips and hammer heads being successful bait choices. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; www.yeahrightcharters.com; or www.oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass are biting at 8-15 feet and are being hooked with Carolina rigs. Crappie can be found around 10 feet and have been biting live minnows, while catfish are being caught near the bottom. Eels have been a popular bait choice. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 251.15, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Jordan Lake

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet with soft plastics and spinner. Catfish are biting near the bottom and are being caught with worms and shrimp. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 214.64, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Bass, catfish and crappie are biting at depths of 10-15 feet and are being caught with jigs and Carolina rigs. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 300.05, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Lake Wheeler

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet with soft plastics and spinner. Catfish are biting near the bottom and are being caught with worms and shrimp. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Shearon Harris Lake

Largmouth bass are biting anywhere from the bank to 20 feet and are being caught with crank bait. Crappie can be hooked around 10-20 feet and are biting minnows. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
