Police seek man in Raleigh homicide investigation

From staff reportsJuly 9, 2014

— Police are looking for a man seen in Club Bodi on the night of a homicide near the nightclub.

Investigators think the man may have information “that would advance the investigation” into the death of Vernon Oneal Jones Jr., 26. Police found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot early on June 1.

Investigators are looking for a black man who was wearing a red shirt with a dark diagonal line and some type of logo or insignia on its front, according to police. He appears to be wearing glasses and a dark cap in photos released by police.

The man police seek was inside the club on the night of the shooting.

Investigators think that the victim left the nightclub at 310 S. West St. to flee an earlier disturbance. Police haven’t said whether the disturbance and the shooting were related.

Police ask anyone who may recognize the subject or who has other information that might assist detectives to call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at 919-834-4357 or visit raleighcrimestoppers.org for text and email reporting options. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases, according to police.

Days after the shooting, the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control board suspended Club Bodi’s alcohol license, citing the shooting and effectively shutting down the downtown business.
