RALEIGH — Definitely cooler and probably wetter summarize Thursday's weather forecast, and the wet part may come in localized downpours.
The National Weather Service put the probability of rain at 60 percent to 70 percent across the Triangle, with precipitation more likely the farther east one goes.
Rainfall was generally forecast to be in the range of a quarter-inch to a half-inch, but there was a chance of locally heavy rain and isolated severe thunderstorms, and those could lead to some minor local flooding, forecasters said.
Rain was likely to continue overnight, with another quarter-inch to a half-inch possible, forecasters said.
Friday, rain is less likely, but the possibility will persist, and there is a slight chance of thunderstorms Saturday as well, the weather service said.
