AT&T service restored

From staff reportsJuly 11, 2014

AT&T service in Apex is restored. A fiber cut disrupted wireless, wireline, and U-verse internet services to some customers in the Apex area .

AT&T phone service was out to at least two neighborhoods in Apex on Friday, causing a neighborhood pool to close. A recorded message late Friday said that the service could be out all weekend and that resumption was expected Monday.

The message said a problem with the “main cables” was the reason for the outage, which was affecting neighborhoods along Apex Barbecue Road in Apex, which is near the N.C. 540 toll road west of downtown Apex. Construction and road work are under way in that area.

The pool at Scotts Mill neighborhood closed on Friday, and a planned neighborhood swim team party was canceled Friday night. A message on the neighborhood Facebook page said regulations require a land line phone to be working at the pool, which is serviced by lifeguards.

“Unfortunately this means the pool will be closed until phone service is restored to the pool,” said the message from a pool committee member. “I already double-checked and cellphones are not an option.”
