Henry leads New York past Columbus 4-1

The Associated PressJuly 12, 2014

— Thierry Henry had three assists and the go-ahead goal Saturday night, leading the New York Red Bulls to a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Crew.

Henry scored in the 45th minute when he nonchalantly floated the ball just inside the far post. Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark was out of position after blocking Bradley Wright-Phillips' header, and then another shot was blocked by a defender.

The Red Bulls (5-5-8) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Henry set up an easy tap-in for Wright-Phillips' MLS-leading 15th goal of the season.

Columbus (4-6-8) answered in the 39th minute when Adam Bedell scored his first MLS goal.

Henry then teamed with Lloyd Sam on a give-and-go in the 56th minute, and set up Eric Alexander on a breakaway in the 91st minute.

The third assist gave Henry 37 for his career in New York, moving him past Tab Ramos and Amado Guevara for the franchise lead.
