Caroline Elaine Homes Pappas and Lathan William McCall were married March 29, 2014, at five o’clock in the evening in The Green Building, Brooklyn New York. Michael Shiffin of St. Lukes and St. Matthews Church in Brooklyn presided over the ceremony. Caroline’s parents hosted a dinner and dance reception immediately following the service.
Caroline is the daughter of Mrs. Ann Hogue Stuart of Wilmington and Mr. William George Pappas of Raleigh and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus D. Hogue, Jr., of Wilmington and Mr. and Mrs. George Peter Pappas of Fayetteville. Lathan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald William McCall of Birmingham, Alabama and the grandson of Mrs. Deloris Katherine Midgley and the late Mr. Roger Gilbert McCall, and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Watts Avant of Andalusia, Alabama.
Presented in marriage by her parents, Caroline was attended by her sister, Marianna Pappas Whitson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Lathan’s sister, Leslie McCall Dervan, of Seattle, Washington. Lathan’s brother, Alexander Avant McCall of Birmingham, Alabama served as Lathan’s best man and Caroline’s brother, George William Hogue Pappas of Los Angeles, California, served as groomsman.
Prior to the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at Frankie’s 457 in Brooklyn for the couple’s family and friends.
Caroline designed and, with her co-workers, made her tea-length ivory wedding dress, which included a bodice of silk embroidered flowers with a portrait neckline and a silk twill eyelet skirt with a pieced organza overlay. She wore her sister’s ivory fingertip veil and carried a soft yellow and white bouquet of ranunculus, chamomile, hellebores, and rosemary wrapped in twine.
Caroline was presented at the 2003 L’Arioso Ball in Wilmington and at the 2004 North Carolina Debutante Ball. A graduate of Broughton High School in Raleigh, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 and her Associate in Applied Science degree in 2010 from Parsons The New School for Design. She is an associate designer with the Marc Jacobs women’s collection in New York. A graduate of Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham, Lathan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Middlebury College and graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in May. He is a surgical resident at Long Island Jewish Hospital. The couple will make their home in Brooklyn, New York.
