Jeffrey Baylon Mitchell, 47, died Saturday evening on Calvin Anderson Ray Sr.’s front porch at 101 Jordan Lane, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ray, 89, told deputies that he shot Mitchell as the younger man broke into the house, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies are continuing their investigation, but the district attorney’s office has determined “that at this time there will be no criminal charges” against Ray, according to the sheriff’s office.
