Eleanor G. Kinnaird: Walk to Raleigh instead

July 14, 2014

Regarding the July 12 news story “ Mayor protests hospital closing”: I am baffled why the mayor of Belhaven would walk to Washington to save his hospital. He could save his shoe leather and sore muscles by walking instead to Raleigh and complaining to the governor and legislature.

If Gov. Pat McCrory and the legislative leadership had accepted Washington’s offer to pay for Medicaid expansion to the 450,000 uninsured in North Carolina, many of whom would have used the Belhaven hospital, his hospital would be open today and looking to a secure future.
