Cree leases warehouse in Durham

LED lighting company Cree has leased 80,600 square feet of warehouse space in Durham to meet growing demand for its products.

The warehouse space on Weck Drive will be used to store products awaiting shipment to distributors.

Mike Watson, vice president of product strategy at the Durham-based company, issued a statement saying that because it is being used as a warehouse, “minimal new hires would be tied to this space specifically, potentially one-to-two jobs if any.”

Cree employed 7,056 employees worldwide as of July 1, including 2,463 in North Carolina.

In addition to making its own indoor and outdoor LED light fixtures, Cree produces LEDs and other components that other companies use in their lighting products. Cree LEDs also illuminate mobile phones, televisions, car dashboards and other devices.

Cree generated $405.3 million in revenue in its latest quarter, up 16 percent from a year earlier.
