Former winner Calcavecchia out of British Open

Hoylake, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Past champion Mark Calcavecchia withdrew from the British Open on Tuesday.

The 1989 winner missed the cut last week at the U.S. Senior Open and withdrew from the previous event, the Senior Players Championship.

No reason was immediately given for his withdraw, though Calcavecchia indicated on Twitter that he had trouble getting a flight.

Calcavecchia, who shared 41st at Hoylake in 2006, has missed the cut in three of the last five British Opens. He tied for ninth in 2012, but that was his first top-10 at the Open since 1997.

He was replaced in the field by David Hearn, who will be making his British Open debut.
