Oregon Inlet

Spanish mackerel, amberjack and blues are biting near shore. Offshore and in the stream dolphin, yellowfin and gaffer can be found. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301,


Inshore, red drum and Spanish mackerel are biting. Offshore, dolphin fishing has been on strong, while wahoo, blackfin and tilefish are being caught. Contact: Red Drum Tackle 252-995-5414,; offshore news, Oden’s Dock 252-986-2555,; or


Pompano, Spanish mackerel, blue fish and sea mullet are biting inshore. Offshore has been windy , but mahi-mahi, snapper and trigger fish can still be found. Contact: Tradewinds Bait & Tackle 252-928-5491,; Morris Marina 252-225-4261,

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Slot-sized red fish are being caught, with Mirro lures being extremely effective. In the inlet, blue fish, flounder and drum are being hooked with top-water baits and clarkspoons. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678;

Topsail Island

Along the piers and in the surf Spanish mackerel, blues, mullets and flounder can be caught. Offshore, grouper, mahi-mahi and sea bass are biting. Sailfish and marlin are being hooked in the stream. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887,

Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach

Near shore, Spanish mackerel, blue fish, flounder, red fish, black sea bass and amberjacks are biting. Live bait has worked well. Offshore, mahi-mahi, billfish and tuna are being caught with troll ballyhoos. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763,

Southport/Sunset Beach

Despite the rain, Spanish mackerel, blues and black tip sharks are biting, and short grouper can be being hooked. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221;; or


Falls Lake

Bass are biting at 10-20 feet and are being hooked with big works and Carolina rigs. Crappie can be found around 10-12 feet and have been biting live minnows and eels, while catfish are being caught near the bottom. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 250.87, full pool 264.8. Jordan Lake

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet with soft plastics and spinner. Catfish are biting near the bottom and are being caught with worms and shrimp. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 214.26, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Bass, catfish and crappie are biting at depths of 10-15 feet and are being caught with jigs and Carolina rigs. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 299.92, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381;

Lake Wheeler

Bass and crappie are biting at 9-12 feet with soft plastics and spinner. Catfish are biting near the bottom and are being caught with worms and shrimp. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Shearon Harris Lake

Bass are biting anywhere from the bank to 20 feet and are being caught with crank bait. Crappie can be hooked around 10-20 feet and are biting minnows. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255;
