Rand Paul to raise money for NC GOP in Charlotte

Posted by John Frank on August 20, 2014

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is scheduled to headline a N.C. Republican Party fundraiser next week in Charlotte.

The event Monday will raise money for the party’s efforts ahead of the 2014 election as it tries to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan and hold legislative majorities in both chambers.

Paul’s visit also appears linked to the 2016 White House contender’s political aspirations. He is traveling the country to talk to GOP voters and sow good will as a top draw this campaign season.

The Republican visited Charlotte about three months ago ahead of the state’s GOP Senate primary in May, attending a rally for Tillis’ opponent, tea party candidate Greg Brannon.

Paul endorsed Brannon in the race but backed Tillis hours after his primary victory.
