Bearcats battle RedHawks in heated rivalry

The 10th-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats and Miami- Ohio RedHawks meet in the 114th edition of the "Battle for the Victory Bell" as they clash at Yager Stadium this weekend.

The "Battle for the Victory Bell" began in 1888 and is said to be the longest- lasting rivalry west of the Allegheny Mountains. It is also the oldest non- conference rivalry in the nation (FBS only), with Miami holding a 59-47-7 advantage in the rivalry. Cincinnati however, has taken the last three meetings and that includes a 45-20 triumph in 2008.

The Bearcats should have no trouble extending their winning streak against the RedHawks, as they are now a Top 10 program with high expectations. The season didn't start that way though, as Cincinnati was unranked despite winning the Big East title in 2008. The Bearcats however, made believers of critics rather quickly thanks to a dominating 47-15 victory over Rutgers to open the season. Eggs keep longer in the fridge

Q: I'm confused about egg storage differences between America and other countries. I lived in Europe, England and Australia, where eggs are always stocked unrefrigerated. I've never gotten sick. Can you enlighten me? We received several versions of this question, so we asked Hilary Thesmar, the director of the American Egg Board's Egg Safety Center, to enlighten us, too.

The bottom line is quality: Eggs keep longer when they're refrigerated, says Thesmar. Although some developing countries still allow eggs to be sold and stored unrefrigerated, most places, including England and Australia, at least recommend refrigeration after buying, she says. And many now require eggs to be refrigerated in the store.

England, for instance, revamped its egg safety standards in 1998 after a salmonella outbreak in the late 1980s. Britain's Food Standards Agency and the British Egg Information Service both now recommend that eggs be refrigerated after purchase. So does the Australian Egg Corp.

Like plenty of fathers, Kevin Bell took his young daughter to Chuck E. Cheese for her birthday. He just had to get a ride from his jail cell to do it.

While serving his final six years for cocaine trafficking, Bell left jail for more than the party in 2006, state investigators say. In fact, his daughter was conceived after Cherokee County jail officials sprang him to attend a holiday dinner nearly three years earlier.

He had a $20,000 bank account -- and deposited money into it by selling items on eBay for deputies, jailers and even the sheriff, according to a state investigation. It's a good thing that Bell was earning money, though. After all, he had to pay his cell phone bill and needed money for the wedding he was planning to one of his jailers.
