CHAPEL HILL -- A car being driven by Cate Edwards, daughter of presidential candidate John Edwards, was struck from behind Friday afternoon, Chapel Hill police reported.

Edwards, 25, had slowed for a traffic light at West Rosemary and North Roberson streets in Chapel Hill around 1:46 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Carol B. Small, 45, according to a police report. There were no reported injuries, said Lt. Kevin Gunter.

Small had a blood alcohol content of 0.17, Gunter said. The legal threshold for impairment is 0.08.

There was an estimated $2,000 damage to Edwards' 2007 Ford, Gunter said. There was an estimated $3,000 damage to Small's 1989 Toyota.

Small was charged with driving while impaired.

An Edwards campaign spokesman, Eric Schultz, today called the accident "minor" and said that Cate Edwards was not injured.
