OFFICE FOR WHICH YOU ARE RUNNING: Micro Commissioner

NAME: *Gene Hinton

AGE: 73

OCCUPATION: retired from B&W Tobacco Corporation in Louisville, Ky.

EDUCATION: one year of college at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson

PARTY AND POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Democrat. Commissioner for four terms since 1999; also served on the town board for two terms during the 1970s

CIVIC ACTIVITIES AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: former volunteer, Micro Fire Department and Rescue Squad, both for about 12 or 14 years

WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED? I'm not a politician. I'm just someone who's concerned about the town and wants to do something to keep it solvent and stable.

CONTACT INFORMATION: 284-2382, P.O Box 191, Micro

1. In what aspects of the town do you want to effect the greatest change over the next two years?

I'd like to see some more of what we've had for the last couple years. We've gotten a new $3 million food processing plant. There's also some commercial land up for sale now. We all want to see progress, but not too fast. We've got to be able to handle it.

2. How would you assess Micro's economic state and what should be done to strengthen it?

We don't have a lot of money. It's a small town. Grants are out there, but you've got to have money to match them. We're solid and sound, but we don't have a lot of extra money. If some of the 30 acres for sale right at the edge of town comes under development, it'd be good to put water and sewer there.

3. Is there anything else about your background or experience you wish to discuss?

I've been in town since 1940.
