Robert Guy, director of the state Division of Community Corrections, is scheduled today to release the findings of an internal investigation into the probation cases of the two men charged with killing Eve Carson, the UNC-Chapel Hill student body president.
Demario Atwater, 21, and Laurence Alvin Lovette, 17, were supposed to be under the probation system's watch.
Carson was killed March 5.
Lovette, probation records show, never met with the officer assigned to his case in January.
Atwater, records show, was passed from probation officer to probation officer. Steps has been taken to revoke Atwater's probation, but it was nearly six months after a weapons charge conviction that should have started the revocation process immediately.
